HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Fundraisers

Bell Socialization Services hosts a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year - from department-sponsored bake sales, holiday breakfasts and awareness walks to special events in the community which have included road rallies, murder mystery dinners and more.

In addition, individuals and groups have demonstrated generous initiative by creating their own fundraisers for Bell (see samples below).

Have an idea to create your own fundraiser? Contact the Community Relations office at 717-848-5767, ext 505; we’ll help make your activity successful in raising funds and awareness of Bell.

CURRENT SCHEDULE:

April 2008

Spring fever have you itching to clear out things you no longer want or need? Feel guilty pitching stuff in the trash? Bell's spring online auction is an easy way to downsize, do a good deed, and receive a tax deduction for your charitable donation.

We're accepting items with a value of $50 or higher - electronics, collectibles, cameras, musical instruments, jewelry, etc. - to sell on eBay through our affiliate, Auction Inn York. So go through those closets, attics, offices and garages then drop off your donations at 405 Carlisle Avenue, Mon - Fri 9AM to 6PM, Sat 9AM to 2PM before April 12.

The auction will run the second and third week of April. Keep an eye on the exciting auction bidding at Auction Inn York.

If you're finding items that are in good shape but may not hit the $50 value mark, bring them along. Bell is running an Indoor Yard Sale at 401 Carlisle Avenue (right next to Auction Inn York) in support of its Vocational Rehabilitation Program.

February 2008

- It's our second Feel Good Fundraiser - and once again, it's all about pampering with a purpose! And what better time than the cold days of February to schedule an appointment for a hot stones massage, a relaxing facial, or rejuvenating reiki session. Our participating providers of salon and spa services dedicate a portion of their proceeds for the whole month to benefit Bell Family Shelter.

MANY THANKS TO OUR PARTICIPATING PROVIDERS! Together, you raised in excess of $1,000!

A look at some of our past fundraising activities:

JUNE 2007

Wedding Bells

Bell employee Jenna (Foose) Triscari feels such an "emotional attachment" to Bell that when she and her husband Basil got married this month they made charitable giving part of the event. In lieu of wedding favors, they donated $1 to charity for each of their guests: half went to Bell, the other half to Basil's charity of choice, the American Cancer Society.

MARCH 2007

Piano Recital

After visiting Bell as part of his Future Leaders of York training, Red Land High School junior Jordan Carey chose Bell to be the beneficiary of his community service project. He performed a full afternoon of piano music at his church with all proceeds going to Bell. The concert raised over $1,600!

FEBRUARY 2007

Birthday Bash for Bell

Board of Directors chair Dr. Robert Lease, Jr. celebrated a milestone birthday this year (we better not say which one) and held a party to celebrate. Choosing not to receive gifts for himself, Bob asked friends and family to donate money to Bell instead!

NOVEMBER 2006

Black Friday Flag Football Frenzy

Brett Snyder and his buddies organized this event a couple years ago to establish a new day-after-Thanksgiving tradition. Instead of shopping, they found a way to have fun while raising money for worthy causes in their community.  The 2006 event scored $1,200 for Bell.

Heritage Valley Federal Credit Union chose Bell to benefit from their monthly Casual Day program. CEO Tim Ames presented Bell with a check for $130.

Just in time for back-to-school, Bethany and her mother (a teacher who volunteers time at the Shelter tutoring children) arrived with armloads of pencils, paper, notebooks, back packs, and more!
