Bell Family Shelter strives to increase awareness about homelessness in York County and relies on community partners to help us raise necessary funds to provide vital services to families in need. Civic organizations, business, churches, foundations, families and individuals may “adopt” a day (or more) at our shelter by donating all or part of one day’s operating costs.
Full or half-day contributions are showcased in our Adopt-a-Day placements in the York Daily Record and York Dispatch, and are recognized in our email/web site updates and in Bell’s annual report. Many groups and individuals choose to “adopt” a specific day that is special to them, recognizing important events and people in their lives.
Your Adopt-A-Day donation of $600 for a full day or $300 for a half day helps cover expenses for one shelter day, including housing and utilities, meals, basic personal care and laundry, and supportive counseling in budgeting, employment, and parenting skills.
Since we began offering services for York County’s homeless families 25 years ago, Bell Family Shelter has provided services for more than 14,000 people. In 2010 there were 598 residents sheltered inside our walls . . . and 400 more were on the waiting list. With need so great, two of our sources of funding are in danger of being cut in the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
YOU CAN HELP us remain a vital community resource. Even if you can’t give $600 for a full day . . . perhaps you can give $25 for one hour. Maybe a friend can do the same. Maybe the people in your office. Maybe your family. Your $25 Adopt-an-Hour donation will make a difference, especially now.
