Volunteering

There are a variety of opportunities available for sharing your time and talent to further Bell's mission. We can always use a helping hand and YOU may have just the expertise and enthusiasm we're seeking.

Some options include (but are certainly not limited to): assist with mailings, filing, weeding & planting, web master, organize/inventory donations, teach a craft, tutor children after school, give haircuts, paint a room, organize a fundraiser or collection of goods.

Green Thumbs Needed Immediately for Tending Flower Beds
Description:

Bell is seeking individuals and/or small groups to help us manage the outdoor areas of some of our group homes . Primary tasks would be weeding and managing growth of plantings in the flower beds.

There is an immediate need for major weeding at one property as well as ongoing care.

Arrangements must be made in advance with the program coordinator and house supervisor but this opportunity provides great flexibility – design a schedule to suit your needs.

Requirements:
-ability to handle varying levels of yard work (initially more strenuous, reduced to moderate and light as beds are managed appropriately)
-transportation to/from the property
-desire to share your time and abilities in support of our mission to provide an environment of support and empowerment where people can improve their quality of living.

Artistic People Needed to Create Attractive Displays
Description:
In cooperation with the Community Relations office, brainstorm ideas for, then develop and install series of 12 to 18 eye-catching window displays to promote services of our established human services agency which provides support to individuals living with mental illness, developmental disabilities and homelessness.

Perfect community service project for individual or small group interested in sharing their artistic abilities.

Great resume building opportunity for students to work creatively with local non-profit organization.

Requirements:
Creativity and resourcefulness are key as there is currently little to no budget for this endeavor. We're seeking a simple yet dynamic, professional look.

Individual/Group should have access to necessary resources to produce items for displays and/or ability and willingness to solicit donations for same.
Project requires volunteers to set up and tear down displays on (roughly) a monthly basis.

Must be able to work cooperatively with Community Relations office staff and work independently in the creation and installation phase of the project.

Donations Coordinator

Bell is seeking a dedicated, highly organized, energetic “people person” to help manage in-kind donations made to our non-profit human services agency so the donation experience will be the best it can be for all involved.

Supervised by the Community Relations team, the Donations Coordinator will
 be the designated contact person for donors to reach Bell in regard to in-kind donations,
 work with department/program staff to assess need for donations,
 evaluate quality and pertinence of donations being offered,
 coordinate scheduling of donation pick up, delivery, placement and/or storage,
 assist in handling/moving items (if necessary),
 maintain a flowing inventory list,
 capture complete information from donors and maintain file of donation forms,
 provide monthly reports of in-kind donation activity,
 be responsible for mailing thank you cards to donors in a timely manner.

This position provides flexibility – design a schedule to suit your needs.

Requirements include
 ability to work with diverse groups of people while maintaining a positive, pleasant demeanor,
 valid PA driver’s license,
 ability to lift and carry donations (if necessary),
 computer literacy,
 nice handwriting a plus (must be legible),
 desire to share your time and talents in support of our mission to provide an environment of support and empowerment where people can improve their quality of living.

Volunteer Coordinator
Bell is seeking a dedicated, highly organized, energetic “people person” to help make the volunteer experience with our non-profit human services agency the best it can be for all involved.

Supervised by the Community Relations team, the Volunteer Coordinator will
 work with departmental and program staff to evaluate need for volunteers,
 develop methods to publicly announce volunteer opportunities,
 be the designated contact person for potential and existing volunteers to reach Bell concerning volunteer opportunities,
 assess compatibility of activities to individuals and groups,
 coordinate scheduling of volunteer hours,
 maintain a volunteer data base,
 be active in coordinating volunteer appreciation/recognition,
 provide monthly reports of volunteer activity.

This position provides flexibility – design a schedule to suit your needs.

Requirements include
 ability to work with diverse groups of people while maintaining a positive, pleasant demeanor,
 computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Access preferred),
 public speaking and presentation skills,
 desire to share your time and talents in support of our mission to provide an environment of support and empowerment where people can improve their quality of living.

Marketing Internship/Volunteer Opportunity

Description:
This is a great opportunity for a student majoring in marketing or public relations to expand their skill set and develop real world experience in a non-profit setting. Non-student individuals with experience or interest in marketing and/or public relations who wish to share their talents and skills are also most welcome.

Over the course of the internship, the successful candidate will:
 Assist in identifying key contact groups for marketing the agency’s Wedding Bell Registry (see: www.weddingbellregistry.com)
 Collect names and contact information of individuals in target markets utilizing newspapers, magazines, internet research, etc.
 Establish a database to store collected information,
 Provide input into determining the best way to reach target markets,
 Assist in the development of effective materials to reach these markets,
 Facilitate dissemination of program information/materials,
 Evaluate return on effort

Requirements:
The ideal intern will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and capable of drawing up and following a timeline to complete tasks as assigned. S/he will be capable of working independently on and off site and be available for regular meetings at Bell to evaluate progress.

Exceptional writing and communications skills are essential.
