York Suburban Middle School Jazz Band

We’re so excited to announce that the York Suburban Middle School Jazz Band and their conductor Mr. Biddle will be on hand at the Bell Family Shelter 25th Anniversary Celebration and Jazz & Jeans fundraising event!  Heard the group this summer at Central Market and were really wowed!

Here’s their bio:

York Suburban Middle School (YSMS) Jazz Band is becoming well known in the York area for the extreme high level of musicianship demonstrated by their talented students. In adjudications, the jazz band regularly receives the top score of participating jazz bands and almost always receives the highest rating category possible by the judges.

YSMS Jazz Band performs at festivals, adjudications, jamborees, along with performances at all of our school buildings. Past members have gone on to become professional musicians/teachers, and musical successes by alumni of the band are many.

We would like to thank our supportive parents and would also like to thank our school administration for supporting music in our school.”

Conductor:

Mr. James Biddle received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA. Mr. Biddle’s main instruments are tuba and string bass. He had studied with Mr. John Turk, a nationally known tuba player for many years. He played tuba with Western PA orchestras and performed regularly on Pittsburgh Public TV.

Mr. Biddle has over 20 years experience in private teaching of band and string instruments. He has also many years of public school teaching strings and band instruments and is currently the middle school band director at York Suburban. He has performed in this area extensively with his family quartet, Biddleboy Brass, and plays with the Keystone Brass Quintet, Black Rose Brass Quintet and St. Mary’s Brass, along with area bands and orchestras.
