Pack-to-School!

Just in time for back-to-school season, a generous donation has arrived at Bell Family Shelter! Ruth Ann and Brian Baer, two long-time friends of Bell, dropped off a heaping trunk-load of quilts and backpacks on Wednesday, August 16. Ruth and Brian have been donating backpacks and school supplies to Bell for over 25 years, as well as delivering quilts made by a sewing group at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church. Every year before the start of school, the church blesses the backpacks and quilts and Ruth and Brian deliver them to the shelter. St. Jacob’s was awarded Bell’s Margo Atwood Community Services Award last year for their support, and the Baers continue to be an organizing force in the church’s regular contributions.

This year, Ruth and Brian arrived at Bell Family Shelter with a whopping 40 backpacks and 22 hand-made quilts. They even helped shelter staff move them all indoors before taking off! These backpacks are being used by children staying at the shelter as they head off to school, and the quilts will be distributed among those in Bell’s shelter services programs who are experiencing homelessness. We thank our friends, the Baers, once again for their generosity and hope to count on their continued support for years to come!
