Celebrating Growth and Courage: Jonathan’s Journey with AIM

During our Annual Celebration, we were proud to honor Jonathan Naugle with a Personal Achievement Award — a recognition that truly embodies courage, growth, and perseverance.
Jonathan, who is part of the autistic community, is a cheerful guy who loves knock-knock jokes and helping others. As Victor Holler, former Program Coordinator of Always Include Me (AIM ), shared, “People dealing with autism can have extreme anxiety because every detail is important. Jonathan is learning to overcome those challenges and expand his horizon.”
When Johnathan first joined AIM in September 2023, his mom wasn’t sure if he would feel comfortable going on outings. With the support and encouragement of the AIM staff, a series of small, intentional goals were created to help him build confidence and ease his anxiety about venturing into the community.
It started with simple steps — helping to take out the trash, walking to the van door, getting inside, and putting on his seatbelt. Eventually, he joined staff on short rides to see where others went. His first official trip was to McDonald’s for a Coke and while he didn’t get one that time because he wanted to go back to the program before the drink could be ordered, it was a milestone moment, nonetheless.
Each small victory built on the last. Then came a day that marked a turning point. Jonathan went with staff to find Mary, one of his favorite team members, and together they went to the park. There, something wonderful happened: Jonathan smiled, swung on the swings, and truly enjoyed being outdoors.
For someone who once found leaving the building overwhelming, that moment represented tremendous growth and pure joy.
The AIM Program helps individuals build confidence, foster independence, and make meaningful community connections through daily outings and personal support. The team’s compassion, creativity, and commitment to meeting each individual where they are — and celebrating every victory along the way — make all the difference.
