2020 Pauline Whitacre Community Services Award

Bell’s former executive director described Pauline Whitacre as the kindest, sweetest person he knew. She was a mental health consumer who volunteered daily at Bell for more than 20 years to help fellow consumers – long before the concept of peer support was in existence. She used her own vehicle and time to transport people to the first Bell Club drop-in center, always helping folks to feel welcome and heard.

In her honor, this award is presented to an individual or group who provides time and resources to enhance Bell Socialization Services’ mental health programs.

Bell’s social rehabilitation programs – and specifically the Sendero program for people whose first language is Spanish — have been the recipient of the good will of this year’s nominee on numerous occasions, regularly receiving supplies, food, and funding for equipment.

The recipient of Bell’s 2020 Pauline Whitacre Community Services Award is Jim Hale and Lions Hall Bingo.
